Due to National Grids essential electricity cable replacement works on the railway’s land, our timetable is subject to change at short notice. Please contact us if you require any further information.
Between the 13th April and the 24th May, passenger train journeys are suspended due to National Grid's Essential Electricity Cable Replacement Project.
Our cafe and gift shop at Gilfach Ddu station will remail open on the following dates: 14-16 April, 21-23 April, 28-30 April, 4-7 May, 12-17 May and 19-21 May.
Temporary shorter passenger journeys for 2026
Due to National Grids essential electricity cable replacement project, Llanberis Lake Railway has handed over a considerable length of the railway to National Grid in order that they can replace those cables which run under the railway’s land. This means that, from the 15th February and throughout 2026, the railway will be operating a shorter passenger train service from the main station on Padarn Country Park to our Llanberis station and vice – versa, a journey of approximately ½ mile, 15 minutes return. The Café at our main station on Padarn Country Park will remain fully open in accordance with the published timetable, as will both our retail shops. The ticket price being Adults - £2.00, Children - £1.00, Dogs - 50p and will allow passengers unlimited travel on the chosen day of travel only.
The Train Journey
Most of our passengers begin their journey at either Gilfach Ddu station, in Padarn Country Park or at Llanberis Station, now that the line has been extended. As it’s been our traditional terminus, we’ll start the journey at Gilfach Ddu.
If you arrive by car, you will find plenty of parking in the pay and display car park operated by Gwynedd Council. This serves the railway, the slate museum and several other attractions in Padarn Country Park. Before you make your way to the station, take a moment to think if you were here 200 years ago, you would be standing in the middle of the lake, as the whole of the car park and the area known as Gilfach Ddu is reclaimed land as a result of the quarry tipping slate waste into the only available space at the time, the lake. Would that be allowed today?
Tickets for the train ride are sold in the Station Building, as is a range of gifts,books, souvenirs and refreshments.
